This is an early work that I painted
from my experiences with Barred
Owls in the Atchafalaya Swamp.  
These birds, being quite numerous
in the big swamp, like to eat fish,
snakes, frogs, etc.  I have seen
them go completely under the
water after catfish.  On an
Audubon Christmas Bird Count, a
friend and I counted 92 of the big
owls  in our quadrant one night.
