| This is one of my early paintings from the late 70's, in my then signature style of a foreground detailed subject against the soft airbrushed background. The honeysuckle and poison ivy climb this maple trunk which is growing on a ridge in the swamp. Louisiana has a high population of woodcock in the winter months throughout the bottomlands and even in the Atchafalaya swamp along the bayou ridges. The briars are thick on the ridges, but if you can manage to get through them, you will be rewarded with lots of woodcock and rabbits. The woodcock hunt is a fun midday diversion after a good morning in the duck blind, but watch out for the cottonmouths. | ||||||||||||||||
